Rex Grantee Helps Domestic Workers Get OT
Rex 2013 grantee the California Domestic Workers Coalition played a key role in the state’s new law that requires overtime pay for domestic workers. Starting in January, nannies, cooks, housekeepers and other domestic workers will be paid time and a half for working more than 9 hours a day or 45 hours a week. Read about the new law here.
Says Rex board member Cliff Palefsky: “In my day job I fight for justice in the workplace. This group of historically powerless California workers have been excluded from many of the basic workplace laws and protections many of us take for granted. The California Domestic Worker Coalition has been working tirelessly for years, organizing, advocating and shining a light on the abuses and indignities they suffer. It is extremely rewarding to think that Rex has contributed in some small way to this great step forward. All credit goes to the Coalition and to Governor Brown for signing this landmark piece of legislation.”
