Dancing in the Street: Thank You!
(Check out photos and videos from this incredible event here!)
Rex Executive Director Cameron Sears says: We really had a terrific night December 9 at the Fillmore as we came together and celebrated the Summer of Love — a great reason to assemble the stellar cast of musicians on the stage. What a joy it was to see and hear the sounds of 1967 with the combined exuberance of the original performers and the new artists of the current Bay Area music scene. Dan Lebowitz did a masterful job of weaving a musical tapestry that everyone there is still talking about!
The Summer of Love fed the creative expression of the time, but also was a catalyst in creating positive social change, and some enduring legacies that are as relevant now as they were then. Many organizations born during that time have continued the work they began 50 years ago. The San Francisco Mime Troupe, The Haight Ashbury Free Clinic and Huckleberry House, to name a few, are great examples of groups that have grown with the times and the needs of the people they serve. We should all be thrilled by their success, and happy to have a played a small part in their continued presence.
All of us at Rex realize that our work is never done. We intend to carry into the future the tradition that came out of the collective experience of the Sixties. We are amazed at the work undertaken by the people we give grants to. We give grants to small organizations who operate close to the source of those they are trying to help, and the heart and compassion each organization represents is staggering.. Together we will make sure their work continues and their voices are heard.
I want to thank all of you for your faith in Rex and your continued support. If you can, come to one of our events–we have some great ones planned for 2018. If you can’t make it to an event, please consider making a tax-deductible donation.
Lastly, I want to thank everyone who contributed to making Dancing in the Streets a tremendous success. We could not have done it any other way!
