New Old Time Chautauqua Launches “Redwood Vaudeville Tour”
June 3, 2010: Rex grantee the New Old Time Chautauqua launches its summer tour this month in San Francisco on June 19 with a performance at Fort Mason in San Francisco.
Keep the Faith blends the raucous and the sublime — folk music, aerial acts, new music, poetry, juggling, Sousa marches, bubble magic, beat box rhythms, and cowgirls. To say nothing of hula hoops. The late troubadour, wit and working-class hero U. Utah Phillips said “The Chautauqua is a highly organized, well traveled, marvelously skilled and benign madhouse. Be careful, they’re contagious. Personally, I love ’em. I wouldn’t trade the Chautauqua for a spotted hog.”
The show features Tom Noddy (the Bubble Guy), Mark Growden (singer/songwriter/accordionista), Bronkar Lee (juggler/beat-boxer), Shannon (aerial splendor), Shannon and Islando (acrobatic dance), Dusty Rhodes and her Handsome Cowboy (Western moosic), Revolva (hula hoopstress), Alex Kelly (incredible cellist), Youth Speaks (Bay Area poets), Faith Petric (the Fort Knox of folk music herself), the Fighting Instruments of Karma Marching Chamber Band/Orchestra, and even more.
The Keep the Faith tour honors Faith Petric, the legendary folk performer, for her music and community activism. Faith is a bundle of energy and passionate interpreter of justice songs for workers, the poor, hobos who rode the rails, the environment, women, children, and those in need generally.
The tour kicks off at 7:30 p.m. on June 19 at the Cowell Theater at Fort Mason. Tickets are available online at www.fortmason.org.
