At 5:15 on Saturday, July 10, 2010, Rex board member Matt Butler drew a roar of cheers from the crowd as he launched the totally improvised 30-minute Rex Jam with The Everyone Orchestra.

Starting with a “Welcoming Rex” segment, Matt segued to the “No Naked Guy No” portion of the Jam–conducting the musicians and crowd in response to a streaker, who made  a surprise entrance on the stage and went for the drum set before being escorted off.

This was followed by an inspiring “Shine, Shine, Shine,” where Matt had the musicians and crowd singing to a closing crescendo.

During the jam, Rex volunteers accepted contributions from the fans, and $1,460.26 was raised to support the Preston High School musical instruments program.  Tim Walther, producer of All Good, told the crowd they could keep contributing at the festival merch table, and that all monies would go to Preston High.  We’ll report back soon with the final numbers.

Rex introduced the first Rex Jam with Matt and The Everyone Orchestra four  years ago and now enjoys the tradition that has emerged: Inspiring music and generosity of spirit across the festival community to support local area high school arts and music programs.
