Rex Musical Caravan: 7 Walkers, August 6-7
Here’s yet another reason to be in San Francisco the first week of August: two great shows by Bill Kreutzmann’s new band, 7 Walkers. The band, which also includes funky bluesman and voodoo electronic pioneer Papa Mali, multi-instrumentalist Matt Hubbard, and George Porter Jr. of The Meters, has been drawing raves for its irresistible tribal groove and its new songs by Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter and Papa Mali.
On Friday, August 6, it’s a masquerade party in honor of Jerry Garcia–come as your favorite Grateful Dead lyric! Moonalice opens, and there’s a Rex Foundation silent auction table with many cool items up for bid.
Saturday, August 7, it’s a Tribal Communion for Gulf Coast Awareness, in which 7 Walkers are joined by Big Chief Monk Boudreaux and a contingent of Mardi Gras Indians in a night of healing Swampadelic dance and powerful uplifting chants. Fishbear opens.
Doors open at 8 p.m. both nights; show starts at 9. Tickets and info:
