Humane Society of Grand Bahama
Founded in 1968, The Humane Society of Grand Bahama (HSGB) is the island’s only animal welfare organization. HSGB addresses animal over-population and suffering through programs, ongoing education and community outreach. Their US 501 (c) status was established through the Kohn Foundation of Santa Fe, New Mexico, following a visit to the island in 2004 by Ellen Kohn. The Kohn foundation raises money for critically needed medicines, vaccines and food, as well as fund spay/neuter clinics and puppy lift operations. After Hurricane Dorian in 2019, much of the equipment at the shelter has been destroyed. The Rex grant will help to bring medical care and/or vaccinations for hundreds of animals on the island.
