New American Story Project

The New American Story Project’s [NASP] mission is to foster humane and substantive dialogue around the complexities of migration, US immigration and asylum laws, and human rights concerns of new immigrants. NASP operates under the belief that stories have the power to illuminate, to educate, and to increase empathy. Stories create change. The current project, Welcome Children: Voices of the Central American Refugee Crisis, allows visitors to see and hear from women and children who have journeyed thousands of miles to reach the U.S. The website is a hybrid – it focuses on the complex issues of child and family migration and uses an artistic lens to produce high quality content to capture the public’s interest and imagination. In addition to interviewing the children and families, NASP provides additional context and analysis through interviews with lawyers, social scientists, judges, human rights activists, and in-country experts.
